I am hard pressed to choose between the male version sung by Papon in his baritone and the female version sung by Monali Thakur. It begins with raga Yaman and moves on to raga Puria Dhanashree. The song glides effortlessly between two ragas. Anu Malik scores a winner with Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage (lyrics by Varun Grover). No one tries to explain to the audience why something is funny and that’s a sign of a director who believes in the intelligence of the audience. The humor is intelligent and endearing without being preachy. She does not hesitate to push back at any jibe from her in-laws even though everyone around expects her to be a shy, demure newly minted bride.ĭirector Sharat Katariya refrains from turning this into slapstick comedy. The girl played by debutante Bhumi Pednekar is very comfortable and confident about her weight and looks. His happy life is interrupted when his father gets him married to a girl who is fat enough to make Lappu squirm at the thought of accompanying her to the market. Lappu runs a small shop with his father where he spends the day listening to songs sung by Kumar Sanu. He is a twenty five year old in Haridwar who dropped out of school after failing to clear his tenth standard exam. Ayushmann Khurana is called affectionately called “Lappu”by his parents (played by Seema Pahwa and Sanjay Mishra) and an aunt (played by Sheeba Chadha) who lives with them. The phrase “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” is used by groups when they are trying to push, pull or lift something that is very heavy and takes everything they have. Writer director Sharat Katariya makes the story come alive with a subtle touch of humor and skillful storytelling.
#Dum laga ke haisha review movie
In a world obsessed by size zero and anorexic looking heroines, it takes courage to make a movie with a rather plump looking leading lady (played by debutant Bhumi Pednekar ).ĭum Laga Ke Haisha (DLKH for short)is a film that is refreshing not only because it tackles a super sensitive topic, but the director manages to steer past clichés and sermonizing.

If you have not seen the movie as yet, you must.
